No, you do not have to become a member of the AAW to join the Tri-State Woodturners.  The Tri-State Woodturners are an affiliate chapter of the AAW, but they are separate groups with separate benefits.  We encourage our members to become AAW members as well, because there are lots of benefits to joining the AAW, but you are free to make that decision for yourself.  The AAW does provide free trial memberships.  Check out the www.woodturner.org for more information.

I'm not a member of the Tri-State Woodturners. Can I attend a meeting anyway?

Visitors and guests are always welcome at our meetings.  Come and see us and attend a meeting or two to decide if you would like to join.  There are lots of benefits to joining our club. We have a skilled turner demo at each meeting and members bring in their work to show to the rest of the club. The best way to becoming a better turner is by become a member of a local turning club.

Meetings

What typically happens at the monthly meeting?

We start with some basic information that we want the members to know about, and then we allow members to show items that they've brought for to share in the instant gallery.  Most of the meeting time is dedicated to a demonstration.  Demonstrators are frequently club members and show how they make some item or some specific technique that they have learned.  We have a lathe set up at the front of the meeting room and a camera system that shows a close-up of the demonstrator's techniques on two large screen televisions.  There's time for questions and answers and it's a fun, informal time for turners to gather together and learn from each other.

I don't have a lathe at home; can I still join the club?

Yes, you're welcome to join the club regardless of your experience level or access to tools.  Come join us and meet other people interested in woodturning.

Where and when are the meetings?

Meetings are typically held the 3rd Saturday of each month but be sure to check the event calendar to make sure of the details.  Meetings start at 1:00pm, but feel free to come early to talk with other members and to view the items that people have brought to show.  Meetings are held at the Chattanooga Woodcraft Store located at 5824 Brainerd Road in Chattanooga.
